Background

Abba Hillel station on the Tel Aviv light-rail Red Line, selected as the international pilot for the new LEED for Transit rating developed under a USGBC-NTA MOU.

Approach

The station uses 7% less energy than ASHRAE 90.1-2010, supplies 60% more fresh air to platform and concourse with continuous CO2/CO/PM2.5/PM10/O3 monitoring, cuts water use 40%, diverts 86% of construction waste, supports intermodal bike/bus/walking connections, and includes a custom LEED-approved disaster-preparedness plan.
